What is LECA?

LECA are small, round clay balls that have been superheated to expand into porous, lightweight spheres. These little power pellets are widely loved in semi-hydroponics for their ability to hold moisture, provide aeration, and support root systems—without using traditional soil.

How it's made?

LECA is made by heating natural clay to around 1,200°C, causing it to puff up like popcorn. The outer shell hardens, while the inside stays porous, creating a ball that’s both water-retentive and breathable.

Unlike pumice or perlite, LECA doesn’t mix into soil—it replaces it! It’s reusable, mess-free, and ideal for growing plants in water-based systems with nutrient solutions.

Where it comes from?

LECA is commonly produced in Europe and Asia, with high-quality batches coming from countries like Germany, Denmark, and China. It’s gaining popularity globally, especially among indoor plant lovers.

How it's used?

Used in semi-hydro setups, propagation, hydroponics, and even orchid or aroid culture. It supports roots while allowing for precise water and nutrient control.

Fun fact!

LECA is pH neutral, sterile, reusable, and doesn’t compact over time—making it a clean and sustainable alternative to soil for modern plant parents!
