What is coco chip?
Coco chips are chunky pieces of coconut husk that offer a natural, sustainable way to improve soil aeration and moisture balance. Think of them as nature’s version of orchid bark—but lighter and eco-friendly!
How it's made?
After coconuts are harvested, the husks are sliced into small, coarse chunks. These chips are washed, dried, and sometimes buffered to remove excess salts, making them clean and safe for use in plant mixes.
Compared to coco peat, which is fine and soil-like, coco chips are larger and chunkier, helping to increase airflow around roots while still holding moisture. They break down more slowly, making them ideal for longer-lasting mixes.
Where it comes from?
Coco chips are mainly produced in tropical countries like Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, and Malaysia, where coconuts are abundantly grown and processed.
How it's used?
Great for aroids, orchids, monstera, philodendrons, and other tropical plants. Also used in terrariums, reptile bedding, or mixed into soil to boost drainage and structure.
Fun fact!
Coco chips hold water in their sponge-like cells—keeping roots hydrated without getting soggy. Plus, they smell naturally fresh and earthy!
